As our We Care community outreach program continues, our team at Pathways has wrapped up yet another successful month of donations for our friends at Friends of the Poor in Scranton, Pennsylvania!
Friends of the Poor is a non-profit organization whose goal is to ease the burden of life for individuals living in poverty – providing everyday necessities like food, water, clothing, furniture, toiletries and emergency assistance, if needed, all on-site.
Friends of the Poor the only organization in the county that provides furniture for their visitors. In addition to these offerings, the organization likes to host additional events, especially around the holidays, to bring hope and brighten up visitors’ days. Additional events include senior dinners, children’s after school mentorship programs and various field trips.
This month, our team collected monetary donations and other necessities, including 17 pairs of new work boots. Our Human Resources Generalist Kristen Pierce met with Sister Ann Walsh, who was excited to see us arrive with another round of helpful goods!
What makes this organization so great is that you can see first-hand how much your donations have an effect. The smiles on volunteers faces reminds you of the impact such a small notion of kindness can make. If you resort to dropping off your donations in a large bin, how soon do you know they are going to good use? How long will they sit in there before they are picked up?
A special thank you to our Senior Development Consultant Brad Arnold for recommending this charity for our We Care initiative and giving us yet another opportunity to spread some kindness for our local community!
