We Care: Marley’s Mission

COVID-19 has disrupted nonprofit organizations in massive way. With Pathways’ We Care community outreach program, our team is taking the steps needed to help our neighborhood nonprofits get past this unprecedented time.

For the next two months, the Pathways team will be raising funds and taking donations to benefit Marley’s Mission.

Marley’s Mission began in 2009 as a unique therapeutic approach to helping a child recover a traumatic experience. This unique method of therapy is called Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and has been proven to yield psychotherapeutic benefits such as confidence, self-efficacy and trust in patients who have experienced emotional trauma and now suffer with depression, anxiety and similar symptoms.

Equine therapy does not involve horseback riding, but is experiential in nature, meaning that participants learn about themselves and others by taking part in activities with the horses, and then processing or discussing feelings, behaviors, and patterns. This is said to help the victim process their feelings a little more comfortably since the environment is non-threatening and non-clinical.

Marley’s Mission provides all equine-based therapy free of charge to children and their families who have experienced trauma.
