Generation Z and Social Media — Women to Watch: Tech Watch

Social media has over 2.6 billion users. These sites can yield both positive and negative impacts so it’s important for users to stay safe and use precaution when using these sites – Generation Z especially. This generation doesn’t know a world without smart devices and some reports say they spend upwards of 3-4 hours per day online.

Social media can create a lot of anxiety, especially for young girls.

Often times they’re the recipient of cyberbullying and harassed by others which can damage their self-esteem and reputation. In addition to cyberbullying, girls and boys often share personal information which leaves the door open to predators or online scams. In one survey, Mary saw that 85% of girls receive a friend request from strangers and 44% of those girls just accept the request. That’s very scary!

Mary’s advice is to get educated and share this information with children and teenagers. For more information on this topic, you can email Mary at mary@pathwayscg.com
