Is your Smart Home Secure? — Women to Watch: Tech Watch

If you own a smart home or smart device, it’s important to take the proper security precautions to avoid nightmares like privacy invasion or hacking.

According to Wirecutter, if a hacker can access your smart lightbulb and toggle its setting to “at home,” they might also be able to control your alarm system, making it possible to disable an alarm to slip into your home undetected, just by messing with your smart bulb settings.

When choosing a device, stick with the reputable brands – these companies have the resources to better prioritize testing and updates for security.
