As we continue our We Care community outreach program into the months of June and July, our team will be making contributions to West Scranton Community Development. This non-profit organization has a vision to offer a wide variety of activities for both learning and athletics while also offering a source of support for the less fortunate.
In their most recently acquired property, West Scranton Community Development offers a fully equipped basketball court, separate rooms to organize a variety of activities and a perfect space for a game room. Currently, students of all ages can spend their after-school hours participating in open-gym hours for activities like dodgeball, kickball and other recreational games, as well as classes for art and science.
In the future, West Scranton Community Development hopes to offer additional educational and athletic programs for students, including programs that feature all aspects of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) educational approach to create an engaging learning environment for both young learners and the future career force.
When students don’t have the opportunity to participate in athletic or enrichment activities at their schools, this could create an impact on their social development. That’s why West Scranton Community Development has made it their mission to provide these individuals with the space and resources they need to alleviate further impact on their social skills.
As always, any monetary donation (big or small) can make a positive difference for the further development of this wonderful organization. Currently, some of their most needed items for the summer months include:
