As our We Care community outreach program continues into the months of June and July, our team has completed our first round of drop-offs for our friends at West Scranton Community Development! The volunteers at the center were incredibly appreciative and even provided us with a tour of what they do for the young visitors as well as the community.
West Scranton Community Development is a non-profit organization who has a vision to offer a wide variety of activities for both learning and athletics while also offering a source of support for the less fortunate.
In their most recently acquired property, West Scranton Community Development offers a fully equipped basketball court, separate rooms to organize a variety of activities and a perfect space for a game room. Currently, students of all ages can spend their after-school hours participating in open-gym hours for activities like dodgeball, kickball and other recreational games, as well as classes for art and science.
At times, the center will host anywhere between 30-60 kids each day. Upon opening this new location, the facility had been closed for 15 years prior. To help with the costs of renovations and repairs, including a new roof, they are applying for several grants to make these changes happen sooner than later.
Many of these costs involve the funding for supplies that support all the programs for the children who visit the center. Our team came together to collect as much as we could to help ease the financial stress. This includes:
Gift cards for Sams
Bottles of paint
Packets of paint canvases, brushes, markers and aprons
Cases of water and Gatorade
Oscillating fans
As always, any contribution big or small will put a smile on someone’s face. For more information about West Scranton Community Development, visit their website here.
