In honor of Women’s History Month, every March Tech Watch segment will be dedicated to famous women in technology – past, present and future.
Women like Ada Lovelace, Dr. Erna Hoover and Hedy Lamarr were visionaries and problem solvers. They changed the direction of technology, as we know it today.
Unfortunately, there is still such a large gender gap in the field of technology. In the mid-80s, women made up 37% of computer science degrees. Today, women only make up about 20-25%. Additionally, they make up less than 20 percent of U.S. tech jobs.
So why does this matter? It’s because women are excellent problem solvers, awesome at multitasking and are incredible relationship builders. Women trust their intuition and are persuasive. Women seek challenges and are equality minded. Studies show, when men and women are working together successfully, the result is a more innovative workplace. For existing and future technologies, bringing the genders together is critical!
